Karen Stokes is interested in community. The scope of her interest includes landscape, environment, history, folklore, and industry. Her primary community resides in her home town: Houston, Texas. Below are some of the projects inspired by Houston.
Tree People: Inspired by Discovery Green exhibit "Field of Light" by Bruce Munro.
Sunset at White Oak Bayou: Inspired by Allen's Landing in Houston.
Drench: Inspired by "water" at Discovery Green.
Channel/1836: Inpsired by the founding of Texas and the Houston Ship Channel.
Hometown: Inspired by Houston landscape, weather, population, and industry.

Karen Stokes has been twice recognized as the "best choreographer in Houston" and received a Masterminds award from Houston Press.
