The Framing Dance Residency is an in-school residency in connection with our established Framing Dance performance, a free field trip experience with an interdisciplinary emphasis on the exploration of storytelling through movement. Karen Stokes Dance believes students benefit by the introduction of live performance art and an alternative mode of kinesthetic learning.
KSD artists teach children movement and choreography, using concepts that relate to communication, language, and storytelling. Students discover improvisation, group thinking, and movement vocabulary that can be used as teaching tools to reinforce learning and problem-solving in the classroom. KSD offers supplementary videos and teacher handouts on how to further implement these ideas in the classroom, creating a cohesive learning platform that can be used throughout the year. The residency culminates with the Framing Dance performance at the Hobby Center, providing a comprehensive educational experience, from exploring HISD curriculum through movement and choreography, to viewing and interacting with KSD dancers in a professional theatrical setting.
KSD is a 501c3 non-profit company, and all donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.
